Home Safe!

Well, at 3:30 AM this morning we pulled into our driveway and I could not have been happier.  While the trip was a great time with lots of pictures and great powder, some other things happened that made the trip a little bit stressful!  The plan was for 2 days at Keystone, and our third and final day (Sunday) at Vail.  And we were to be driving home starting Monday morning.

We woke up early on Sunday, packed up the gear and headed for the Vail mountain base.  Dave was driving Abbey, Brian, and myself along I-70 (Mark and Kevin were in another car).  The road was a little slick, and the back end started to slide.  We thought he had corrected but it went out of control — and we spun across the two lanes into the guard rail and hit it face-on, and then the car continued to slide counter-clockwise so we hit the rail again on the right side of the car.  We had enough momentum from the 2nd hit to propel us back across both lanes and go face-first into the snow bank where we stopped.  The windshield was shattered, and both front airbags deployed.  AMAZING (thanks to God watching us) nobody was hurt — just really scared.  And somehow nobody hit us on the highway that was driving — and nobody stopped either.  So the car was towed on a flatbed tow-truck (WITH US INSIDE OF IT WHICH WAS FREAKY) to a local garage, which of course was closed on Sunday.  So we waited.  Monday morning we took the car in and were able to get a rental so we could use our third lift ticket for skiing.  But the chances are 99% that his car is totaled, and we left it in CO.  Tuesday morning we woke up and got on the road at about 7:45 AM.  We heard that there were storms on our path home — but we had no IDEA how bad they would be.  We couldn’t see the road, and had to go about 35 MPH most of the trip home…which meant my nerves were FRIED to say the least by the time we got home…phew!

So I wanted to let everyone know that I am a day behind, so I will be returning e-mails and voicemails as much as I can today.  Thank you to everyone who sent thoughts and prayers for our ride home — we made it!  Of course I will share pictures soon too!
